Hello Parents!

Congratulations on raising such a compassionate, resourceful, and socially aware child!  What?!  Oh, they didn't direct you to this page?

Well ... Congratulations on being such a loving parent.  One who is concerned about your youngster's well-being and one who would rather have your child participating in something good, useful and infinitely more helpful to them when the time comes to fill out those college applications, than say, hanging out at the mall or spending endless hours playing Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The Junior Volunteer Program at the SPCA Tampa Bay is a great way for your son or daughter to learn about the compassionate care of animals, customer service and animal handling.  They will have the opportunity to be exposed to many areas of Tampa Bay's largest animal shelter and work alongside the employees, adult volunteers, and fellow Junior Volunteers.  Not only will they learn a whole lot of practical information, it is also a chance to demonstrate reliability and responsibility, to meet all kinds of interesting people, to make a difference in the lives of many animals and to develop a sense of accomplishment.

But best of all - they will enjoy it.

The requirement is only 3 hours per week on a set schedule for 3 months.

There is a formal application process that is described here:
  http://www.spcatampabay.org/page.aspx?pid=402

They will need to submit 2 references from people not living with or related to them, and they will also need to submit a 500 word, typed essay on why they would like to be accepted into the program.  Please consult the above links for all of the requirements.

The deadline for each summer session is in mid-May.  We accept incoming Junior Volunteers in May/June of every year.  The application is available to download on our website from January to May.
