Working with Children |
| |
|
SPCA Tampa Bay volunteer humane
educators are caring people who have a
desire to help children move in the
right direction. Volunteers deliver
age-appropriate presentations on
important topics such as the link
between animal cruelty and human
violence, as well as the importance of
compassion, honesty, respect, and
responsibility. Other valuable lessons
are also taught that make a positive
impact on the young audience. A
pre-approved, behavior-screened
education animal that charms the
children into paying attention and
absorbing the information accompanies
the volunteer to the classroom. The
information presented hopefully benefits
the students by providing a guide
towards positive future behavior.

If you are interested in speaking to
children, consider joining the team of
volunteer humane educators. We can't
guarantee that you won't be asked some
perplexingly difficult questions,
perhaps even some that are completely
off-topic. However, you can rest
assured that your involvement will help
animals and provide a meaningful
experience for the children and for
yourself. |

Working with Adults |
| |
|
If you prefer speaking to adults, we are
also in need of educators for adult
audiences. Some engagements might
involve training teachers, social
workers, guidance counselors or other
professionals about the link between
animal cruelty and human violence.
Other assignments might involve speaking
to community organizations about the
SPCA Tampa Bay.

The SPCA Tampa Bay has a strong
commitment to humane education and
their educational programs set them
apart from other shelters. I
participate in our Against Cruelty
Together (A.C.T.) program, which
targets tweens and teens, educating
them about the link between animal
cruelty and violence toward people.
By being proactive through A.C.T.
and other programs, the SPCA Tampa
Bay provides kids with the knowledge
and tools to report animal cruelty,
to be safe around animals and to be
an important part of a humane
community. |
